Say What? Harvard Study says Near-Earth Object could have been Alien Probe

There’s so much news, and so little time. Which is probably why a potentially life/universe altering announcement seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Avi Loeb, chair of Harvard’s Astronomy Department, says a recent interstellar object that passed by Earth may have been an alien probe sent to investigate Earth.

Why an alien probe and not an asteroid?

The object, named Oumuamua after it was discovered in October 2017 by the Pan-STARRS 1 telescope in Hawaii, is the first confirmed interstellar object (meaning it originating from another star) to pass through our solar system.

It is described as being dark-red and 10 times as long as it is wide — far more elongated or flattened than any known asteroid or comet. It was clocked traveling at 196,000 mph. Perhaps most intriguing, it not only increased in speed, but slightly deviated course, as it approached Earth.

These strange and unique characteristics are what led a respected Harvard proessor to conclude: “Oumuamua may be a fully operational probe sent intentionally to Earth vicinity by an alien civilization.”

Loeb defended his hypothesis, stating: “We know a quarter of all the stars in the galaxy have planets in the habitable zone of their host star … so to me it’s not impossible that there may be life elsewhere.”
